The short animation from the Rainbow Wings Twilight Sparkle toy commercial, based on the Rainbow Roadtrip special coming this summer. It appears as the special will be using the same animation style as the movie.
The source was not Equestria Daily, they got it from here. I took the original video file, trimmed it to this specific time, and converted it to a gif.

Which is a shame. Toys with the other Mane 6 with their accessories along with toys of the new ponies from the special would have been pretty cute.
I’d type think of it like a mood ring.
Maybe like these wings on Twilight.Because I like doing it. :P

Well, Rainbow Dash went Super Saiyan 3 last time, maybe this time she’ll go super saiyan 4.
Too expensive and time consuming.
Style inconsistency; money.

Some of the toys do imply though that they may get rainbowy manes & tails.
Of what i’ve seen from the toys, only Twilight will get the rainbowy treatment on her wings.
