Honestly, I chalk up the models of the solar system up to the writers and artist not thinking about it too hard and not really knowing how anything else would look. It’s also very possible that at one point it did work exactly like our universe (or at least similar enough) but something happened to throw it out of wack. That would explain their solar system model.

The writers (I forget exactly who) confirmed that their sun is exactly the same size as ours in an e-mail to a fan years ago.

But it doesn’t at least not in the way our planet orbits the sun. The sun and the moon in their universe uses a force, that they call magic, supplied by, (to the best of our limited knowledge) Celestia and Luna to orbit around the planet.
I think this board raises some serious questions about their world. How massive or dense is their planet to have a star being able to orbit around it?
No, it just would be completely different from ours. Just because it doesn’t follow our laws of physics and there is a thing called magic in it doesn’t mean that they can’t explain things scientifically. Their science, and therefore their Astrophysics, would take into account the existence of that difference. Magic to them would just be another form of science. Therefore Celestia and Luna controlling the Sun and Moon is not any kind of issue to them when trying to make testable explanations and predictions about their world.

Because you have a world where literal Celestial object are controlled by the whims of two ponies, Astrophysics is getting kicked in the dick by them in this universe.
Why would Geocentricism negate Astrophysics exactly? Astrophysics is the study of what makes up Celestial objects, their composition and I don’t think how they move in relation to the planet has anything to do with that.
She wants to be the first to solve it for Helium.
Interesting, I wonder who she is explaining how the Sun and Moon work too? That looks like what she is doing anyway. Logically it would have to be either someone who is not from their world or a young child.
