It’s not AU, it’s intentionally backwards. Rarity’s a unicorn whose only “spells” are limited to telekinesis and finding gems. Sassy Saddles basically enslaved Rarity, her own employer, had been kicked out of numerous shops for doing it before, and planned to leave as soon as Rarity called her out on it. Valley Glamour is a vain, completely self-involved, fashion plate of a consumer with little else to her at all. Sapphire Shores was going to fire Rarity over the slightest disturbance during a rehearsal, said she’d fired lots of ponies before over less, and only decided not to because Sweetie Bell had sewn a dolphin into her headpiece and she likes dolphins. Suri’s a lying, cheating ass (no offense to Cranky, Matilda, and Muleia Milds) and is a fair contender for Worst Pony. Photo Finish has no apparent sense of humor at all and makes everything overly melodramatic; the only thing funny about her is how over the top she is, and she herself can’t possibly see it and certainly wouldn’t find it amusing. Coco’s the third shyest character on the show, was painfully easy for Suri to bully, and couldn’t bring herself to talk to anypony even to get her beloved theater project restarted; even Fluttershy and Marble Pie have shown more assertiveness than her on occasion. And lastly, Rara was both the victim of an evil pony who basically got off scot-free for using and belittling her and everypony around her for years; and lorded her fake personality and talent over everypony else around her for years until she realized what she had been talked into doing on Svengallop’s behalf.
 
They’re respectively among the least magical, loyal, generous, kind, honest, fun, brave, and justice-associated ponies in the show.

Since when were Sunset and Starlight Courage and Justice? If I recall correctly, one of the writers for EqG said Sunset was Empathy, which I presume is because she has had experience in both camps(Good and Evil) and has felt all the ups and downs, as in, she has personally experienced the things that people are feeling, including enemies.
