That’s the problem… people go in watching in hearing all sorts of good stuff (or just stuff in general) about it and they keep their expectations too high and they aren’t met and they decide it’s ‘terrible’ even though it was just ‘okay’ imo
I actually thought it was good for what it was.. I watched it twice and I enjoyed it
Haunting of Hill House is scarier… but it just has short intense scary/creepy parts
Which I also saw that twice
That probably would make for a good comedy.
I mean as a comedy.
Good point. I bet with some rewrites this concept would make a pretty good book.

That is true. You can make the plot of a lot of movies sound silly if you simplify them like that.
@Meanlucario
You mean it isn’t?
Now that I think about it, if an idea is better on paper than on film. Then that means it’s better as a BOOK.
That sounds like the best road trip movie ever.
Well I mean when you simplify it down, “Sandra Bullock wears a blindfold and walks around carrying a bunch of birds for 2 hours” does sound really silly XD
Then again that’s what happens to most movies if you simplify the premise.
Like if you done that for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the remise of that is basically “A bunch of short people, an old dude, a supermodel and a few bearded dudes spend 6 hours walking through New Zealand to return jewellery”
The concept of only animals seeing the presence sounds like an interesting idea on paper. The idea of not being able to see whatever threat is very scary. In fact, many good classic horror films use that sort of thing to their advantage in a “less is more” kind of way by letting the music and atmosphere give the audience chills.
Not to mention animals do have better senses than we do and some of them even have senses we don’t have (like seeing ultraviolet light or detecting electricity). Plus it’s common in fiction and folklore for animals like dogs and cats being able to detect evil or ghosts. So I can see where they were going with this.
But the execution, however, sounds completely funny. I’m just imagining Sandra Bullock in blindfolds walking around with a birdcage and I’m very tempted to laugh at the idea alone.
@Alex
It does. But it’s nice to see other people’s different opinions and discuss them with each other.
That’s how opinions on the internet tend to go I suppose
@Twilight_Shimmer
@SJArt117
Also to add on to this, the reason the movie is called “Bird Box” is that animals are not affected by the Presence, and Sandra Bullock’s character discovers a cage of birds that makes noises whenever the Presenceare around, so she ends up spending most of the movie carrying around a cage of birds with her.
And I think most of the backlash for it is coming from both Netflix advertising it all over the place, and due to people hyping it as the best horror movie of 2018.
@Alex
One person saying it’s a good movie, one person saying it’s a bad movie but regardless I understand the meme now. I’ll probably never watch it but I’m glad that I have the context of the joke now. Thank you.
I also don’t really care for RedLetterMedia so I’ll pass. I’m sorry.
Edited
It’s a really bad movie and Netflix invested a lot of money into a viral marketing campaign to turn it into a meme.
The movie itself was just bad. For a more entertaining take on it I’d skip the movie itself and watch the redlettermedia review of it instead. It was a lot more fun
Its basically that if you see this ‘presence’ you end up killing yourself, so this woman and her kid (and friend’s kid) have to survive by staying blindfolded so they don’t die.
It was pretty interesting and the ending was pretty wholesome.
Hopefully, someone will clear that up for us. But long story short, this is a meme about a movie.
