According to the source it’s supposed to be the early ‘90s, but I guess both look very similar.

I can kinda see a Finn/Marceline type of freindship between these two. It’s like Chryssy is always lending life advice except it’s not always the best kind of advice.

As the persion who has commissioned this art, let me answer you. The world, in which Shining Armor and Chryssie live, is a mixture of the MLP and EG universes. It strongly resembles the USA of the 1980s and early 1990s. There is some magic (unlike the EG universe) but it is not that strong as in the pony universe. This world relies more on technology although the powerful wizards like Startswirl the Bearded did exist in the distant past. Changelings in this world are not outcasts. but live alongside ponies and other races (griffins, minotaurs etc.). They are not bug-like civilization in this world, so no swarms, hives etc. Chryssie is just a fellow highschooler, a tomboyish and geeky girl with strong interest in cosplay, LARP, horror and sci-fi movies and tabletop games (introduced to them by Shining). So, she is not a queen in her normal life. However, in this world’s version of Warhammer Chryssie always plays for bug-like creatures and has quite an army of these miniatures, so during the tabletop game sessions she is indeed a Changeling Queen.

I wonder if this Chrysalis is still a Changeling Queen?
