Here’s what I see:  
Spike decides to become the next Dragon Lord. But he goes to the next step. Overtime, he will turn the Dragon Lands into the Capital of the Future Dragon Empire.
 
And to secure his hold on the throne and Blood Scepter, he decides to marry Ember, seeing as she is the daughter of Torch. (Though, who says Spike can’t take Rarity as a concubine?)
 
That’s what I see.
