Indeed, though unfortunately due to internet definitions having varying sources, including some claiming “Derpy” means “retarded” (even though most don’t use it in that sense) apparently is supposedly more “offensive” then say a goofy character named “Goofy,” therefore not as easy to get away with. Things are so P.C. nowadays, I saw the word “midget” bleeped on a show recently.
 
TMNT 2012 got away with saying “derp” though, and even had an evil clone of April called the “April Derp.”

There is in G4? Though, after the Derpygate incident, many fans probably wouldn’t be keen on “Bubbles” or any alternative name anyways, so it’s a lose-lose situation.
 
I saw one fan suggest calling her “Dopey” if Hasbro/DHX are afraid to call her “Derpy” as it sounds similar, though Disney probably has that trademarked already.

Problem with calling her Bubbles however is there is another character called that, so it would cause some confusion.

Frankly, “Bubbles” might’ve worked better, but that was a rare unpopular fanon name. Plus, it reminds many of that old famous sadfic about her.

Brony history lesson.  
In the earlier days in the fandom, it actually was, as it came from an unseen pony from the Season 1 episode “Winter Wrap-up.” Lauren Faust stated on DA they considered naming the character “Ditzy-Doo” to tie into the “Winter Wrap-up” episode, but stated “she didn’t want to step on anyone’s “Derpy love,” and “she can still be Derpy if people want.”
 
Though, after the “Derpygate” incident, Derpy’s alternative names including “Ditzy Doo” fell out of favor/use, as some felt it was “giving into the Derpy censorship.” Some consider “Ditzy-Doo” to be a different pony, as well. So not many use the name to refer to Derpy.
 
I still kinda headcanon her as both Derpy, and Ditzy Doo. (Sometimes I combine the name into “Derpy Doo,” as I never liked the last name “Hooves.”) Much like how I still use both Robotnik/Eggman, and Bowser/King Koopa.

I have a fanfic-level scenario:
 
Derpy and Carrot Top were roommates.  
Carrot Top married Written Script.  
Derpy got drunk at a party one night and went into the wrong darkened bedroom, where mistaken sex ensued: Derpy thought it was a dream, and Written Script thought it was Carrot Top.  
Nopony knew who the father was until Dinky was born.  
Derpy and Written Script amicably share custody. Carrot Top understands and holds no animus.  
Amethyst Star is an adult only two years younger than Derpy, who Derpy legally adopted when she found out Amethyst Star had been orphaned but never adopted. Amethyst Star is now a live-in big sister and unicorn magic mentor to Dinky.  
Derpy is single, and has no other children, but her sister Ditzy Doo has all the foals usually attributed to Derpy.

Yep, I also like to imagine that she’s the older sister too, with Derpy being kind of being the third youngest out of them.
 
Ski Hooves (red mane) being the second oldest, Frosty (white mane) is the youngest after Derpy with Orange Box (orange mane) being the youngest.

I was thinking Derpy’s sister, Flutter Doo/Ditzy Doo/Flutter Hooves, would be their mother (I kind of see Derpy having a few siblings also, though that’s just me), not too sure about it, though.

Yeah, for me, I have Dinky and Crackle as Derpy’s kids with Dipsy and Chirpy as Dinky and Crackle’s cousins while Amethyst’s relationship is more akin to RD/Scoots rather than Rarity/Sweetie or AJ/AB.
 
Thinking about it, I could see Written being Chirpy and Dipsy’s father.
 
Likewise, Cream Puff and Dinky are kind of like cousins as well, but they really do not get along with one another due how heavily they conflict in regards to their respective mothers (and Dinky doesn’t like Millie due to her being rather over protective).

I’ve been thinking of how Amethyst Star fits into the whole thing.  
That sisterhooves social episode really throws my headcanon for a loop… :P  
Part of me wonders if they’re more symbolic sisters, like Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo.
 
I did have a theory for it though, playing on the whole angle of Doctor Whooves being this world’s version of Doctor Who  
Maybe Amethyst was his first foal from a fling he used to have with his old adventures but an accident happened and she died, leaving Amethyst alone, expect for her Dad.  
So he took he with him and then he came to Ponyville and met Derpy. It might also explain why we’ve seen Amethyst spend time with Dinky but not Derpy. Not to say they’re not on friendly terms, but she probably never fully came to regard Derpy as her new Mum, more like, her Dad’s new marefriend  
But since Dinky Doo and Crackle Pop where also fathered by Dr. Whooves, she probably relates to them a lot more. :3
 
Or, if we go with the headcanon of Written Script being Derpy’s brother (I love that headcanon btw! :D) maybe Amethyst could be Written’s daughter? Making her Dinky’s cousin, which is close enough for the sisterhooves social I think, if Rainbow Dash can count as Scoot’s big sister.

That’s a cute headcanon. And most people tend to have Amethyst Star as an adopted older sister of the other foals so maybe you can do the same with your idea.

That too. In fact Seasons 1 and 2 had a few crowd shots with duplicate background ponies in it for that reason. Sometimes even in plain sight.

I like having Time Turner (aka Doctor Hooves) as a platonic friend of hers too. I paired him with Roseluck given Rose’s role in the Doctor Who series. The actual show also had the two of them interact with each other a lot too.
 
For my headcanon, I made Derpy’s brother Written Script and he’s the father of Dinky while Golden Harvest (aka Carrot Top) is the mother. And that kind of had to do with those three interacting with each other in the show in the background a few times. Add in the fact that people had the old headcanon of Derpy and Carrot Top being good friends (and possible roommates), the idea of the two of them being sister-in-laws is rather cute to me and is kind of carrying that idea over.
 
But I do like the idea of Derpy being a mom so I made Chirpy and Crackle Pop as her children (The Cart Before the Ponies gave me enough ammo for Crackle). I haven’t picked out a father for them yet though. I guess there’s Ponet as a option I guess but I might pick another stallion if anything.
