Seasons 5 through 8 seemingly made up their own rules. That or minor details in Seasons 1 through 4 slipped past the writers of the former. X3
Hmmm, the pony of shadows unfortunately is not on my list of episodes to re-watch…
but thanks for refreshing my memory for how the pillars planted the seed for the tree of harmony.
It’s all in the season 7 finale. The Pillars infused their magic into a crystal seed shortly before sending the Pony of Shadows to Limbo. Star Swirl never “found” the Tree of Harmony, so that part of the Journal of the Two Sisters is officially not canon.
That reminds me that I need to dig up some more in the canon show details and find out what I can about the six pillars planting the seed for the tree of harmony… Somehow this past year I missed out on how that happened…
I just rewacthed What Lies Beneath and Ocellus mentions that they were taught that the Pillars grew the tree,
But the mlp wikia only mentions that Starswirl the Bearded found the tree and showed it to Princess Celestia and Luna…
I need more details on this wonderus tree!

Technically it’s an eldritch being that resembles a tree trying to be a pony, still entertaining though
There’s something about a tree trying to be a pony that I just find strangely entertaining. :p
I doubt the head canon is true, otherwise it would’ve just stared at twilight blankly the whole time
That was my thought process with the tree of harmony, it naturally wouldn’t know what blinking is, I’m assuming this is its first time acting like a pony, unless of course the crazy head canon is true that it took the form as Princess Celestia during Twilight’s magical alicornformation process all of those seasons ago.
