The bones in birds and bats are tiny and very delicate. They aren’t the size of pencils like in the picture. So my statement still stands.
I mean… all birds/bats have bones in their feathers as they wouldn’t be able to control them otherwise, why wouldn’t ponies be the same?

This scene, btw, resolved the long-running debate over whether Twilight Sparkle considered herself Spike’s mother, or just his older sister. Only a mother’s heart could be broken like that.
