To them, Pharynx was the local scary violent dude, so it makes sense they’re glad he left.
 
And then they find out a giant mole-bear is heading their way.  
And moles eat insects.  
I disregard the weird dialogue implying it’s a herbivore, considering moles are carnivores…  
maybe this bear hybrid is an omnivore.
