Doing it on accident wouldn’t be condining/allowing it, so it’s a different matter.

@NavelColt
Maybe if they did it on accident.
Or don’t consider isolation a torture.
@Love Letter
Protagonist characters being okay with torture is an example of something you wouldn’t see on the show, just as it’s not something plausible in the canon universe (‘off screen’) either, due to the morals of friendship, redemption, etc that literally run the canon universe. Changing character personalities and morals to extreme points is just as valid an AU as Pinkie being mayor or Dash being an earth pony, when we’re talking about a TV Y show that’s literally built around positive resolutions to every problem. It’s alternative universe.
This is why the show had to create entirely separate personas through magic to depict Luna and Celestia as evil, because a show based around the above morals would have a hell of a hard time trying to explain to kids how a tyrant could become a benevolent leader, and vice versa. The audience typically doesn’t have the understanding of how complex people can be when it comes to morality, so it’s always separated when shown at extremes.
In other words, if you want an in-universe concept of Equestria’s rulers condoning torture, Nightmare Moon or Daybreaker would have to be in charge, because there is no canon explanation, hypothetical or otherwise, that’d explain why Celestia or Luna would condone any kind of torture.

It’s a difference between “this is something that could happen in the show” and “this is meant to be a completely different reality from the show.”
“Pinkie Pie throws a party for Mayor Mare” is just a non-canon fanfic idea. “Pinkie Pie has been Mayor of Ponyville the whole time & Mayor Mare does not exist” is an AU fanfic idea.
No idea what any of that means. Fan fics and other fan made material can never be canon, therefore each and every one occupies their own alternate reality.
That’s not what ‘alternate universe’ means as a tag or a genre, though. It’s reserved for when the difference is an important part of the premise and you’re exploring the alternative, so it’s not appropriate for most stories that ‘couldn’t happen on screen’. If you’re ‘fixing’ the canon universe to fit into a different genre, for example – not AU. That’s the most common thing after ‘this could have been canon when I started writing but it was later contradicted’.
So many people don’t grasp this.
Dark, not to mention Alternate Universe-y. Fanfics are based off the show, so if you’re reading a fanfic and you can’t honestly say it could happen on screen, that’s alternate universe. 😂 I find so many writers don’t grasp this.
Yes, but, Loveless doesn’t particularly give a shit about how the show itself characterizes evil changelings and Joestar Changelings. She has her own fanonical rules and culture for changelings.
This image was made to announce that she’s now open to drawing and writing for Joestar Changelings, which she wasn’t before the date of this upload. <3<
More akin to centrists tolerating regressive, reactionary bigots.
I see what the artist was trying to do - justify drawing the dark changelings - and I think this was not a good approach.
Chrysalis and the old-style changelings show that stolen love is toxic, and those who feed upon it are sickly, hungry, and dangerous. Thorax and his changelings feed on love given to them freely, and they are much healthier because of it. Also look at Sunset powering up with stolen magic during Equestria Girls, compared to Sunset powering up with the magic her friends gave to her during Friendship Games.
I mean if you want to go dark in a fanfic, feel free.
As in a fan-made continuity in which ponies are a little less friendly than they are in the show. ^_^
Not talking about a canonical example, I’m talking about in a fanfic.
If they didn’t care, it wouldn’t be MLP. The show is all about forgiveness and allowing people to start over. The very idea that they’d endorse torturing someone goes against the point of the show.
Well people who going from bad to good aren’t going to magically change appearance IRL yes?
Okay maybe the interpretation of “old ways” may be differently for each person.

That’s the thing though, as long as it was criminals, slave traffickers, rapists, and anyone who either have life in prison or is on the death penalty, would the population really care?
That would be state sponsored torture, which is not something I could see ponies being comfortable about.
Badly, I guess. Changelings feed on love, Chrisalys attacked the royal wedding because of the love bond between Cadance and Shining. How much love is it left in a murderer or a slaver ?
I remember reading a fanfic (I can’t remember what it was called since it came out sometime after season 2) where apparently Celestia and Luna had made a deal with the changelings, they wouldn’t attack and abduct innocent civilians from their population and in return the Princesses would supply them with ponies to feed off of, criminals such as murderers, slave traffickers, drug dealers, rapists, basically anyone who was given the life sentence and or death penalty.
Can’t help but wonder if that kind of compromise would work…
