The very same reason her hair colors changed/desaturated post-Rainbow Rocks.
EDIT: Jfc guys.. Nitpicking such stylistic changes to reflect character progression in a fictional story especially aiming at little girls is sure worthy pursuit of your efforts! :V

Geez, calm down…
way to revive an old thread w/ bs just for drama and then decide not to respond.Every time I interact, just get reminded how toxic this fandom can be… I’m done. Unsubscribed + hide for real this time. Keep losing brain cellsEdited
I think you have proved yourself to be not fond of Equestria Girls way too many times by now.
We get it lol
Then why the heck you keep watching?
You think it’s inconsistent (even if just a stylistic change), not canon to FiM, etc etc…
No one ever point out if it’s FiM or just doesn’t care.
Because the pony show is all SOOO perfect with its consistency.
And yet character decay/ regression is all over the place last season for the sake of the plot.
I will take a simply stylistic change that doesn’t affect the narrative over forced character regression
Edited
You already made up your mind that EG is nothing but inconsistency (it’s just a stylistic change, over exaggerated much?)
The whole fandom would freak out all the time if everything is not consistent.
Ah yes just like I said,

I personally didn’t even notice any difference with that one.
In the end though, the only thing people are asking for is consistency. Then again, I suppose Equestria Girls is nothing if not inconsistent.
Edited
Nothing either.
Can we move on? lol
probably not..
Then again, this is the same fandom that bitched about this..
Edited
Like I said, that was general art evolution. They added aura colors to the show as a whole in season 2.
Did we get that for the changed color aura from Season 1? nope.
Edited
Okay, so what’s the actual in-universe explanation for it? What’s the actual reason within the story as to why it changed?
THAT’S what we don’t have an explanation for yet.
>dumb
That’s subjective.
Because it’s a dumb explanation.
Not to mention, with a couple exceptions, red magic had been pretty consistently used to denote “evil” characters or artifacts (like Sombra or when Trixie was using the Alicorn Amulet).
Not only that, but as I said back when this image was first posted, there has yet to be an actual in-universe explanation for it.
Edited
>unexplained
Already explained lol
No one from the staff ever bring up the changed aura colors an an art evolution (it’s not necessary either) but you guys accept it anyway?
This one was explained and you guys still keep going on and on. And claiming it’s unexplained.
It’s the same change but for a different reason.
But y’all stil can’t stop bitching about it.
I’m done, unsubscribedEdited
And why can’t you just accept as a simple “evil turned to good” design alteration.
Good god this “discussion” is going nowhere.
Edited
It’s an unnecessary and unexplained inconsistency. People hate unnecessary and unexplained inconsistencies.
It’s just the magic aura colors which never means anything in the narrative.
Eh, I think in this case it’s a bit more justified to bring up Starlight.
Edited
I don’t think that example really helps you. Sure, there are a few different art styles at play, but that character remains consistent throughout them all. Blonde hair, grayish-brown eyes. It’s not like one of the designs suddenly changed her hair to black or her eyes to green.
E.g.
@Background Pony #87DE
@ImperfectXIII
That was just art evolution. In season 1, magic aura colors in general weren’t a thing. The addition of them was easily accepted as just a part of adding more detail to various aspects of the animation.
Probably just a stylistic choice. Just like everything else; her hair color.
At least Katrina gave a reason for the change instead of just “it’s a kids show who cares” like you know who.
Ah yes… bringing up Starlight, cause we need to needlessly compare them again.
The problem here is that the explanation they gave - that it changed because she’s good now - is quite frankly nonsensical. Starlight’s aura didn’t change color when she turned good. Why should Sunset’s?
They changed Twilight’s, Celestia, etc from Season 1 and no one gives a shit.
It’s Equestria Girls, everyone will paint it in the most negative light possible.
As in, the excuse for why Sunset’s magic aura color suddenly and radically changed without any explanation.
