Sunset/Daydream Shimmer = Twilight Sparkle
Midnight Sparkle = Nightmare Moon
Still wings, and the whole visual is pretty evident, specially when the fight between Daydream Shimmer and Midnight Sparkle kinda symbolically plays like a reenactment of the fight between the Alicorn Sisters, with the one representing the Sun even powered up by the Elements of Harmony.
It wasn’t alicorn. Her wings were created by magic from M5 and were energy based.
If you ask me, if Sunset had been turned into an Alicorn in Friendship Games upon becoming Daydream Shimmer (which, let’s face it, Horn and Wings? That’s the whole Alicorn motif), it would have been perfect, and I can’t think now of how they could build up to it and make it as good as it would have been then.

Forgotten Friendship was huge first test. Sunset simply can’t become one like Pri-Twi did. She has to prove to magic and friendship power she is ready to take this role.
I used to really hope for this, but by this point, I’ve given up on the chance.
