I’ve always found Chrysalis and Zira to be shockingly similar, myself. Both are power-hungry matriarchs who put on a facade of care for thier children and followers, when thier real motivations were entirely selfish.
 
I think an ending like that would, as such, be very fitting for her character. She’s not reedemable, she’d never want to coexist in the world the changelings and ponies do, now, which leaves exile, rising to power again somehow or self destruction as her characters’ only paths.

I agree! There are so many new expressions that could be done with her, like this one.  
Giving her a completely new design would lose that effect.

I hope she dies. Not out of any blood lust or a distaste for her character, but just to do something different for a villan’s end. I don’t even really want the Mane Six or Starlight to kill her directly, it’d be better if they try their hardest to stop her while extending the olive branch to her, only for Chrysalis to reject them and wind up getting destroyed by some spiteful attempt to take them with her as she’s about to die from some situation of her own doing.

Yeah I like it this way too, though I wish they would dump Snips and Snails, no one likes those two dumb colts, not after the whole Ursa thing back when Trixie first showed up.
