Even if that’s true, I can just use it as an excuse to put a better mentality out there for people to read. If a troll wants to pat themselves on the back because they think they’re smart, let them. If my actions accomplish even a small amount of good, it was worth it.

At the end of the day, this is a cute picture of Fluttershy as a filly doing something many fillies and colts might do in her position. And knowing what a gentle, caring mother Mrs. Shy is, chances are she’d just sit her daughter down and assure her that she doesn’t have to lie about her grade, that she can always ask her parents for help.

Fair enough, I just figured I would let you know that this guy likely doesn’t even believe Fluttershy should be punished and only made that stance to illicit a reaction

*shrug* Oh well. I care more about making a point than whether or not some pathetic troll got their satisfaction.

Point being, don’t punish someone for something that doesn’t deserve punishment. And this does not deserve punishment. Just a bit of help.

I think it extreme to use any kind of punishment simply for failing a public school exam (with one question, no less). If the child purposefully vandalized property or beat up another kid, then yeah, some stronger disciplinary measures are called for. But it’s just a failing grade on a test from an outdated education system. That’s not misbehavior; it’s simply a lack of knowledge. Help the child learn and get better; that’s the point of education, to serve the student by helping them learn useful information and skills so they can live a better life. The exam isn’t supposed to be an obstacle that you have to overcome, it’s supposed to be a measure of how much you’ve learned and how much you still need to learn.

The idea that students have to serve the school by not failing is a big part of the reason society is so messed up. It’s the school’s job to help the student learn and improve for the student’s sake, and if the student is struggling to learn, then the school needs to figure out why they’re struggling and find a better way to teach them, one that doesn’t involve conditioning them through fear or pain. If the issue is that the student gets bored and stops paying attention, make it so learning isn’t boring. Learn the student’s interests, then figure out a way to teach them through those.

We got even a pony episode dedicated to teaching that different people learn different ways: Rainbow Dash had an easier time learning info for her Wonderbolts exam when she didn’t have to just sit still and listen and instead could absorb the information passively while doing something she enjoys: flying. It’s the same way with me: I have an easier time listening and following what’s going on around me when the active part of my mind is preoccupied, such as by a game with minimal text, allowing the passive part of my mind to absorb information.

In a case like this, you shouldn’t punish the student, because that isn’t helping them learn, it’s damaging their self-esteem for not knowing something that you’re supposed to be teaching them in the first place, not to mention it distorts priorities by shifting their focus from “learn this so you can live a better life” to “don’t fail or you’ll get punished”, which is abusive conditioning. It is your job to help them learn what they need to know in a way that is relevant to them. And with Fluttershy, that would be pretty easy: she loves animals, so show her birds, point out how they fly by flapping their wings, then point out how pegasi fly the same way. Through doing this, you help Fluttershy learn without damaging her self-esteem. She feels proud of herself for learning something new, rather than suffering for not following directions.

Learning shouldn’t be about following directions and suffering for failure; it should be about finding your direction, and how to learn from your failures so you develop into your best possible self.

Depends on how it is done. Same with whether or not it is abuse. However, you will not change my opinion on this matter.

ehhh, i’m just dicking around. If this was a first offense, then grounding like that would not be a good way to handle it. If she did this before, then grounding, or spanking(I grew up with spankings and they actually work. My opinion is spare the rod spoil the child.) would be appropriate.

i’m not trolling

I love how trolls resort to this as if it somehow just absolves them or we’re just expected to believe you. Like come on, if you want us to entertain you, you can simply phrase your troll posts so they don’t deal in absolutes/extremes. It shows you’re either trolling or have a twisted personality. Neither exactly welcome serious debate or manage to upset the reader. Just work on your trolling and someday I’m sure you’ll improve.

i’m not trolling, i’m trying to make it very clear that your child attempting to manipulate you shouldn’t be accepted under any circumstances, and for you to just put down me trying to give advice as trolling is especially insulting.
