Yes, that does happen in the original book and in the movie, but a similar event, caused by pretty much the same reasons, happens on Sol 88 in The Maretian.

I was thinking of making a backdrop, like a big screen of the Martian surface with a soundstage and lights behind it, so I could one of each of them posing individually like they were taking publicity photos on Earth, maybe have Fireball be standing so his head is over the top of the screen because it was set up for quadrupeds. I’d need to, like, draw a cameraman or Photo Finish getting too close with a camera for Starlight, though.
