Oh. Good. Thanks for confirming that.
@Sixes&Sevens
Yes, “Portmanteau” is the correct term to use in that context.
Also…
@Sixes&Sevens
Maybe you would, but there’s nothing there to argue; they are portmanteaus, plain and simple.
Edited because: Spacing.
I think she’s genuinely trying to help, like she wants there to be an “Adorkable: ah/DOR/ka/bull, Adj.” entry, and is kindasorta disappointed there isn’t one because she wants to encourage interesting uses of language.
It’s not in the dictionary, silly– somebody wrote it on the ceiling.
Why is this hilarious in hindsight?
Because not long after I originally uploaded this ages ago, Merriam-Webster actually added “adorkable” to their dictionary. I just cut-pasted the tags from the older/smaller image.
I believe there actually is a word for that; a portmanteau. My personal favorite portmanteau is “chortle” which combines “chuckle” and “snort”. I’d argue that a lot of ship names (e.g., Sparity or Twilestia) and other tags (e.g., Cutealoo or Scootalove) are portmanteaus also.
If you can understand Pinkies amalgamation of nervouscited, which is an amalgamation of nervous and excited, nervous(ex)cited, then you should be able to accept other amalgamated words such as adorkable.
That’s not what that means
Because she is being “adorkable” by searching for the word in a dictionary.
@wumbl3
That is her biggest dictionary, it is in volumes. That book there is the A’s.
Agreed.
I believe you.
Collins included it over a year ago; I assume that’s why Jarkes added the hilarious in hindsight tag. I just reckon Ponies lag behind Humans in lexicographical technology.
