Yep, it’s much like how you can put a lot of balanced weight on a chicken egg, why soda cans have a concave bottom or why arches are so prevalent in older architecture. Arches are quite load bearing on one side, but not so much on the other.

Typically it depends on the composition of the crystal. Since most transparent crystal is lead based, we’ll say it’s lead crystal. The shape of the ball and thickness would make the crystal more fragile from kicks on the inside. I don’t see any reason why a healthy equine couldn’t easily free itself.
In short, don’t make anything with hooves mad. lol
