My headcanon is that they’ve always been able to go between seaponies and hippogriffs,
even before the Storm King. They were simply stuck as seaponies for awhile because of him.

And besides that, they can always hang out on the beach.

I kinda liked that part in the episode. First the episode made you think there may be some problems between the Hippogriffs and Seaponies but once they met on the beach they were just like: “Oh, hey guys nice to see you.”

As we can see, Sky Beak and Ocean Flow weren’t the only couple broken up as a result of some Seaponies wanting to keep their form and stay in Seaquestria following the Storm King’s defeat. The decision to divide the Hippogriff race in two will have ramifications that the Hippogriffs and Seaponies have barely begun to grasp.
