The thing that makes its seem so odd is the line about different ‘houses’ it implies something just odd, but again maybe this is perfectly fine by Hippogriff/Seapony culture, just struck me that the problem would be about divorce too.

Even in real life, people often feel at home in more than one place, but it doesn’t mean we have to always be torn in half.
 
And yeah, there is sort of a vibe about parents who are separate. In this case, it’s more amicable than not.
