It is the superior ending. Even Chrysalis was offered a second chance.  
I really hope Lightning has her long overdue comeback this season, reconciles with Rainbow and finally makes her dream come true.

If only this had happened, perhaps Lightning Dust could have been a better character. Maybe they felt forgiving her felt too cheap after creating a tornado, or perhaps it was just cut for time. Either way, we’ll probably never know.
