In which case, at least that much is non-canon.
The show did contradict the journal. There’s a chapter in it where Starswirl and Celestia are looking at the tree of harmony. Which is impossible since Shadow Play revealed that tree was barely planted right before Starswirl disappeared
At the very least, it WAS. Then again, these are the IDW comics, so it may not matter that much, since at least so far, the Show has not contradicted the Journal, and it comes first when deciding what is or is NOT canon.

Considering the new lore we’ve been getting from both the comics and the show itself, I don’t think the Journal is canon anymore
Oh well, off to chuck dangerous villains into random unsuspecting dimensions!

Obviously this was before Celestia learned a little something called ‘diplomacy’.
We don’t know how old the sisters are exactly, but the Journal states that they didn’t get their cutie marks until they were already ruling Equestria as adults or late teens at the earliest.
Teenage princesses… giggle… How old were these two again as Luna got banished to the moon? ;-D

Well, we don’t know that. Stygian didn’t swipe the Pillars’ artifacts until sometime after the Sirens were banished, and he didn’t go Shadows until after that, so there should have been time for Star Swirl to return to the Princesses in between.
