On the paper in front of Luna:“By the order of Princess Luna, Captain Vulpa will lead a squad to… (rest of letter/order) -Princess Luna.”In all the hubbub of this argument, their anniversary kinda got pushed to the wayside. It totally wasn’t because I got too wrapped up in moving to remember to do anything for it weeks ago on the actual day. Nope, totally not that at all.
Plus a follow-up post:
In defense of TwilightI see some folks already calling her a brat or pissy and so on.Just a reminder that, from Twilight’s view, not even eldritch horrors bent on destroying the world were worthy of killing. And even the worst of those could be won over or at least imprisoned without bloodshed… except maybe Sombra but yeah.Nothing in her life or in living memory (sans the near-immortals) lends itself to taking lives as a necessary option. This is the antithesis of every Equestrian value and it’s got to feel like a massive betrayal to her for her wife and her mentor to so quickly decide to go with it.
Click the Royal Sketchbook tag, go to the 3rd page, on the bottom the 4th image from the left is this image, the story continues from the 3rd image to the left and upwards.
Alternatively, go to the blog and read it there, somewhat chronologically.

I guess… though not everyone rushes to spoil themselves the moment a leak appears… so I’m unsure.
No, the broad strokes of it were. The leaked show material suggests that the events of the film played out on a much grander scale in the show’s continuity.
The movie was canonized by the first episode of season 8, which hadn’t come out yet at the point of the posting of this picture and the ensuing discussion. Before, we could only speculate how the movie and the depictions within it fit into the show.
And Silfoe isn’t one to retcon stuff once she establishes it. For better or worse, Silfoe’s Twilight is an extreme pacifist at this point.

That’s where the concept of canon derives from, actually.
incoherent yelling
but yeah
I think it’s time to get back on topic before the mods yell for the third time.
Congratulations.
Mlp isn’t starwars nor has it changed hands recently, so thats a moot comparison.

Yes your opinion on what is canon means nothing compared to the writers and creators of the show.
You should NEVER EVER say someone’s opinion means nothing, no matter how wrong you think they are.
@ExistenceNull
Yeah well the extended universe of Star Wars was once considered canon.
And then the Mouse nation attacked and over fifteen years of a very established universe went down the drain.
@Derpy Whooves
Okay, we had politics in the comments, now you’ve brought an allegory to religion…
Also this thread has gotten pretty long, all things considered.
I’m obliged by Godwin’s law to make a reference to Hitler, but I’m drawing a blank.
… pun unintended.
And yes, that means I just lost.

You have some people who are so utterly brittle about what is and what is not “properly a part of the faith”, and they spend all their time polishing that doctrine day in and day out, making sure that nothing “taints” it. Their love of the perfection of “the thing” is so complete that they can’t see others merely enjoying partial or “flawed” versions of “the thing” - they just see others getting it wrong.
Then you have others who use the faith as a guidepost, a collection of wisdoms that point out a common path, and for me they seem to have more joy and love and happiness. But their mere existence, living outside of the pure faith, throws the orthodoxy into hysterics.
And in between them are a few individuals who despise the orthodoxy, and others who despise heretics, and they constantly stir the fight.
All over a beautiful and delightful vision that should unite, not divide.
I think Silfoe has really tapped into something significant in some people’s hearts and minds with this story. I’m eager to see where it leads.
You seem to forget the staff and show writers can decide a written product as canon.
The comics, made by idw and seperate staff entirely are soft canon. Until referenced in the show they don’t apply, but fit in the world.
A book written by and agreed to be canon by the show writers is canon, refardless of how much people want to fight it.
Well I care more about the opinion of a lead writer of the show than background pony random number. Not only did she run the book through the show editor at the time (Megan McCarthy), but she also consulted with Lauren Faust, the creator of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Your opinion on what is not canon is nothing.
The contents are still not canonical, unless they’ve been read in the show.
Seriously, do we take every single coloring book as canon too?
Yes and I disagree with you, because it’s a novelization of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna’s diary shown in the episode Castle Mane-ia. As a bonus, it also contains the Journal of Friendship written by the Mane Six throughout Season 4.
I’m speaking about purely show canon.
We went through this before, in this very thread - not everything outside the show can be taken fully as canon, even if it was made by one of the writers.
No They where elected rulers from all the 3 tribes and starswirl to represent all the 3 tribes, This was before they even had their cutie marks which starswirl helped them get. People should really read the journal of the two sisters if they are interested in the origin of the country and rulers, It’s written by a lead writer of the show.
The only thing that bugs me about is that they already had regalia before that, but I’ll take it as a bit of laziness from the animators - it’s easier to animate existing, regalia-wearing rigs than making new ones.
This sort of thing has been explored in literature before. Beowulf is an apt example. He took a potent warrior people and protected them so completely that they went soft during his long tenure. They ceased to exist shortly after he died. The princesses weren’t always around and there’s no hard guarantee that they always will be. The Storm King, Tirek, Chrysalis and Discord could have seen to that at any time, for instance. Pony kind, unable to fend for itself, would have been finished shortly thereafter in any of those scenarios.
I do respect how Silfoe defends Twilight, even if she’s blind to the concept of pacifism/diplomacy being prone to failure.
Then again, I can see her using the large-scale freeze spell she used on the Hooffields and McColts and force the bandits to comply.
But what would the innocents she’s defending say to her?
Many things to consider here
