Detailed syntax guide

God_of_Awesome

I went with this:

Celestia = More fightin’ power

Luna = More fightin’ skill

To the ridiculous degree, in fact, that when they ruled in ancient times together, Celestia was a WMD kept in reserve for when they needed such a thing but it was Luna who primarily acted as Warmistress and both would confidently say that Luna would win in a fight.

What happened when she turned into Nightmare Moon is that, in her insanity, she threw away skill and tactics and tried to out-muscle her sister. Even with the power boost, it didn’t work but since Celestia didn’t want to ash her own sister she went with a different tact.

What happened with Chrysalis was a case of Celestia being incapable of going between “stunning spell” and “glass Canterlot” and fitting herself somewhere comfortably in there.

But hey, that’s not canon, it’s just headcanon, THANKS FOR READING

Explain how the intention is different? You mean to tell me Celestia went full power and banished her own sister, but wouldn’t go all out against a tyrannical queen who brought a literal army to harvest the entire populace of Canterlot? I didn’t think I needed to say you interpretation was wrong. I thought that was already evident.

@PaintEdits
No. It hinges on the fact that the intention behind the scenes are different. That is a solid defense considering this is a work of fiction and the intention from the creator is important. You could say that I’m wrong in my interpretation, but you didn’t. So, I guess we’re done.

This is a fight.

And so is this.

With Chrysalis it’s, at best, a lame pretence of showing that Chrysalis is now the dark-evil-bad-bwaahahaha of the season and that Celestia can’t stop her because that would ruin the climax of the episode.

And with Nightmare Moon it’s just Celestia throwing the Elements at Nightmare Moon, after she didn’t do anything but flying around. She’s not even using her own power this time.

None of those are a decent measure of Celestia’s ability as a fighter, or even how powerful she is.

It’s funny. The cartoon has never shown Celestia actually fighting. It’s shown Twilight, Cadance, Luna (both as Luna and NMM, or at least shown them using their magic to blow stuff up. Celestia, never. The closes it’s come to that is in that scene while alternate timeline Applejack is talking to Twilight and Celestia uses a spell to blow away some of Sombra’s soldiers.

Princess Celestia is like a tank, can do great damage but if caught by suprise cannot do anything and Princess Luna is more of a assault, good for anything and if you play videogames you understand what i mean.

As for Chrysalis that is a much better example but there is an explanation i don’t see said too often. Knowing Celestia’s character do you really think she would go all out on Chrysalis? I think its far more likely she fired more of a stun type spell than just going for all out brute force. Chrysalis on the other hand likely used every ounce of strength she had seeing how she panicked. Again I won’t say Celestia would have won the fight for sure if she really had gone all out but I will say I don’t think that’s an example of Celestia’s full strength.
The reason you don’t see that explanation is it’s totally asinine. She held back against a huge threat, risking the entire population of Canterlot because it’s in her nature?

I’d honestly think less of Celestia if she lost for that reason. She lost because she doesn’t bother with improving her magic, (that’s why she keeps a Royal Guard, which poetically is just as incompetent as her - yes I know it’s for the sake of plot) and Chrysalis was powered up by all that love she absorbed.

I don’t know why people keep pointing at the NMM fight as evidence of Celestia’s weakness. She literately says that she won’t fight her sister, can you really say one is stronger than the other using that? When one refuses to fight and the other is fighting to “destroy”? Also in the alternate timelines NMM had to lose quite often for any of those to happen, so we at least know Celestia is able to stop NMM’s return without the elements more often than not.

As for Chrysalis that is a much better example but there is an explanation i don’t see said too often. Knowing Celestia’s character do you really think she would go all out on Chrysalis? Aren’t we forgetting that Celestia raised the sun and moon for a thousand years? She should already know that the moon is easier to raise because she’s done it prior for quite some time. That scene always seemed strange to me, only reason I can see why she would say that is to boast to Starlight about Luna’s job being easier. That’s why she looked to starlight after she said it.

The closest conclusive evidence we’ve seen of them using their strength at the same time was to keep the Chrystal empire storm at bay and they seemed rather evenly matched then, which is pretty much my headcanon.

I could get behind this. She’s at best a demi-god who does no training/magic research (if she trained like Twilight/Starswirl she’d be much more powerful).

@RazorBladetheUnicron
That’s a MASSIVE matter of opinion.

We’ve never seen a canonical fight between Celestia and Luna without dark magic power ups involved, and the closest one to a fair fight we’ve seen was in Starlight’s dream in A Royal Problem and Daybreaker won that decisively. (But it was all a dream, so it’s more the opinion of Starlight’s subconscious)
