Fair point i suppose as to the technicality behind it, although it was a major shift going from a male alicorn who is a brother to Celestia and Luna to a unrelated Tempest.
Maybe it was the Shadow king who was supposed to be the alicorn brother though? Would have maybe fit better.

Pinkie Pie was at one point in her development Surprise.
Rainbow Dash was at one point in her development Firefly.
You can say instead would be more accurate, but for character creation process it is the right term.
Because you have the position you know you want/need to fill and throw around these idea and get to certain point were you twist and turn the concepts till it does not resamble the previous drafts.
Then it wouldnt have been Tempest though, it would have been a completly different character.
A more accurate post would be INSTEAD of Tempest we would have had a brother for Celestia and Luna.
It was revealed after the Sony email leak that the main villain in the original draft of the movie would have been a male alicorn named Cosmos, which we would find out was Celestia’s and Luna’s brother.
The PoS one is differently news to me.
