Its fluttershy, she gets attached to virtually anything cute in a matter of seconds, remember the baby dragons?
It’s accepting the impermanent nature of reality and avoiding attachment that helps her keep sane while outliving so many of her small mammalian friends.
Or accept that you’ll outlive them, love them anyways, and be able to move on when they die and find new people to love.
Again, Fluttershy. Still loves animals, but who knows how many squirrel and chipmunk friends she’s outlived.
Fortunately, Celestia had her sister.
Then she turned into Nightmare Moon.
Let that sink in.
That comic is dumb because it presents the issue as a dumb binary. A binary that his image doesn’t fall under, seeing as it isn’t saying immortality is inherently a curse in itself, but rather what’s the point of it if you are immortal alone.
Well those two are most probably way more related than you realize.
Well that’s just conflating the terms, then. Maybe it was from a Japanese word for both.
it depends on how immortality is defined. immortality and invincibility can be combined depending on the fiction that’s using it. in dragon ball z, garlic jr wished for immortality and he became unbeatable. nothing could harm him.
It’s always bothered me how easily people get the two mixed up.
Invincible = You cannot be destroyed
Immortal = You do not die of age
Two wildly different things.
Invincibility means you can laugh as bullets bounce off of you, or be in agony but not die. Whatever it is, point is nothing can kill you.
Immortality means you can still die if you get injured, but you just hit some age and never die of old age.
Invincibility is impossible.
Immortal is just a matter of revitalizing DNA to repair telomeres and curing cancer. That’s all very doable. Difficult, but not inherently impossible.
I’ve considered that too, they could just be extremely long lived. The word “immortal” has never even been uttered in the show.
At least she’ll have some to attend all those funerals with. ;)
@Barhandar
That is so true. I love that comic.
So, age spells are canon, and Discord is a god in love with mortal Fluttershy. So…
@PonyPon
I think you’d just learn to live with it. You’d certainly come to face death as few ever do.
God, outliving your own children… And great grandchildren…
Fluttershy is already adapted for it, though. Not outliving her own children, but outliving her friends. Consider this: she loves animals and sees them as her friends, right? Well how long do rodents live? And she’s been around long enough to see how many generations?
At least with immortality, It’d be amazing how you get to see the world change. Twilight will get to live from the time of the first pulp fiction to see actual Ringworlds built (or, Banks Orbitals, at least).
If you’re not the type that forms attachments(and henceforth don’t mind how many funerals you get to attend), boredom can really get to you.
Makes you do stupid things, then crazy things, then immoral things.
Because what’s gonna stop you?
