I have noticed fewer people defending Timber as better now that it’s come out because I think even they realized he was not much of an improvement. And in many respects this ship is worse because it jumped into it much faster than the former and it ended pretty much the same. In fact it looks like they are making another one (maybe given the ending) and odds are he won’t be in there at all. But also, consider the following:
 
FlashLight was basically bumping into each other and being awkwardly adorable.
 
TimberTwi was basically him saying something corny (usually with an air of smug) and then her giggling. How is this better?
 
And more time was spent with these two together and yet nothing changed. It was exactly the same throughout. At least with FlashLight it slowly built a little (not by much I admit). I mean sure there was a bit of an attraction without knowing much about the other for them, but Flash wasn’t making moves until later when she had that big song trying to unite everyone and then him finding out Sunset framed her and he clears her name.
 
There was such potential for both really. They could have made either work and I would have been perfectly fine with it. But again, the greatest failure in these films is the romance. It’s what sucks the most. They dont’ NEED it, but I’m ok with the idea of having it. But it needs to WORK. There has to be a point. Not just because a teen girl movie needs one and you need to pad out your running time a bit. The show also suffers from this too because all the romances even in the show are pretty bad. Most of them start cause one thinks the other is hot and that’s about it. Just look at Rarity. If anything due to her two last ones such as Trenderhoof and Prince Blueblood, it’s more convinced me that the message should be “Be careful who you fall in love with” and “Looks aren’t everything”. And then Spike’s is an unrequinted love. The only ones that work seem to be the ones they are saying are “just friends”. They suck and romance when it’s the focus or it’s intended but succeed well when it’s accidental. Look at Applejack and Rarity. When it’s just them away from their friends these two seem more inclined to banging each other than anything else. Look at “Trade Yah” for example. Then Lyra and Bon Bon too. Bedroom eyes on both of them the entire time they’re together.

Certain parts felt a little forced, but it wasn’t bad per-say. All-in-all, their interactions are pretty similar to Pony-Twi & Flash’s.
 
I personally don’t HATE Timber, but I DO hate the fact that all the fans keep over-glorifying him and saying he’s “better” than Flash.

So how was Timber in this movie? Was he as obnoxiously shilled as he was in the novelization? Was his relationship with Twilight better done in the movie?
