I didn’t think to check the drops for the nice crates because I started playing in June of 2014, so I only knew of nice crates having cosmetics and naughty crates having weapons
Either way, the wrap assassin works well enough for the joke
though there are some cosmetics that could work pretty well for the joke too; I nominate the garlic flank stake: a Halloween-restricted pocket cosmetic for the sniperCrate #36, the Nice Winter Crate from 2011, had a chance to give you a non-strange Wrap Assassin.
Moreover, Crates #1-18, if you unboxed a weapon, the weapon would not be strange. But you are right about Nice crate not being in rotation, it’s been that way for quite a while now…

The only reasons you should be running a melee other than the holy mackerel are if you want the extra jump from the atomizer, you’re using the pan or the conscientious objector instead, or you’re playing MvM
IIRC, crates that have a chance to drop a weapon have a guarantee that those weapons will be strange, and the crate(s) that the wrap assasin has a chance to drop from are no longer in the drop rotation
