It’s pretty clear that if he’s dead it happened when he still looked like this, not a full-grown dragon. They could still outlive him if alicorns are truly immortal and dragons “only” get a few thousand years, but this clearly ain’t that.
It’s obvious Spike the Brave and Glorious perished saving us all (or made the fatal mistake of annoying Opalescence and got clawed to shreds.)

They are not crying, so I suppose, for this AU, that he’s not dead but on the Dragon Land, and this is just a statue of him when he was younger. As we can see Flurry is grown up here, so he might be as well.
and flurry just seems like a Teen… so he should be still around unless he died early…?
it also says “The Forgotten” but what about the Crystal empire, they have a fucking statue of him in the middle of the city.
