Quicksand actually isn’t dangerous to conscious, self-supporting beings. Terrestrial animals usually have a density of close to 1 g/cm^{3. Stereotypic beach sand is usually SiO4, which has a density of 2.65 g/cm}3. Quicksand must, therefore, have a density of more than 1 g/cm^2, so any animal should be able to easily float in quicksand.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I did a Google…
“But beach sand could easily become quicksand if enough water were thrust up through it. If an excessive amount of water flows through the sand, it forces the sand particles apart.”
