Well, Nick owns the franchise now, but they at least still credit Laird & Eastman as the original creators in it, and other things.
The 2012 series does have a few 2003 things, like it adapted Hun, (leader of the purple dragons, but he’s much different now, and not a very prominent character) and the “Earth Defense Force,” lead by Agent Bishop returned, though, they’re now Utroms.
Other then that, it does borrow things from the original Mirage series too, (like the Fugitoid, the Triceraton aliens, the Rat King’s episode being titled “I monster,” the RK’s original comic name) and some from the campy original cartoon, as well. It even has some movie references. So it’s an interesting blend of past canons, but some returning obscure characters changed so much, they’re almost that character in name only. Regardless, it handles change better then most shows.
@northern haste
In fairness, Laird & Eastman basically dropped out of the franchise, and got tired of managing it.
Eastman did praise the 2012 series though, (saying it’s one of the best versions of TMNT he’s seen) and co-wrote a TMNT Nickelodeon short on Youtube.
I’m not sure but I think 2012 did have some reference to 2003.
Actually one that did for me about the batman crossover is how the opening credits of tmnt as being characters from Nickelodeon I know they own it now but they didn’t invent it. I don’t even think Disney does that with the stuff like that
The sad part about 2003 is that is arguably more faithful to the comics even having the original creators involved
Sometimes they unfortunately do. Like the 2003 TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) series seems like it hasn’t been reaired, or rereleased on DVD much sense Nickelodeon bought the franchise. (Basically, because Peter Laird was tired of handling it.) Though, it supposedly aired on NickToons TV for awhile, a channel hardly anyone has.
The original ‘80s/‘90s show had it’s entirety (198 episodes) released on DVD, so I wonder why Nick won’t do the same with the 2003, and 2012 TMNT series. (Granted, apparently the original show’s license is owned by some other company, so it’s had more releases.)
Especially, considering Nick released “Complete Series” boxsets of shows like Rocko, and Real Monsters.

really I think the only staff I would only be recognised by the children of the time would be stuff does not worth remembering in the first place.
Even when something gets rebooted all the made they don’t tend to act like the original doesn’t exist
I was a huge Popeye fan as a kid, (I even remember playing the NES game by Nintendo themselves before too) so I loved those, as well. Some of those still had impressive animation, and 3D effects even comparable to today’s animation.
Not to mention, Popeye’s smart-a** muttering never gets old.
The Superman cartoons were pretty good too.
I remember loving the old Popeye cartoons when they were shown, both the B&W ones and the really fancy color ones (Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Sinbad the Sailor) done by the guys who did the early color Superman cartoons. Which were also pretty amazing.
Yeah, in fact, as a kid I liked cartoons as far back as the 1930s/40s, as they used to reair those old public-domain cartoons, and such on TV, or put them on cheap videos/DVDs.
Actually the more I think about it reruns kinda make the whole purpose of being a 80s or 90s or 2000s kid a bit redundant. Well mostly when people say that only those kids will recognise something
Really? Didn’t even think that show had any of that stuff still out there. It’s a very obscure show, even to those alive when it came out.
In addition to all of the videos (and a broken laser disc), I have 3 animation cels and drawings, and a few storyboards from Rude Dog.
Amazed somebody remembers “Rude Dog, and the Dweebs.” (Which starred Rob Paulson.) I used to rent videos of that from the local video rental store. (I miss those.) A very underrated cartoon similar to “Muppet Babies,” & MLP:FiM in that it had a large cast of main characters, and usually an episode would focus on one, or several of them, which was interesting.
Kinda surprising they got away with naming one of the characters (a chihuahua) “Tweek.”

A female dog. That his own pet dog starts flirting with. How did they ever get away with that?

No Monchichis, cartoon Ewoks or Droids, though.
…..and now I realize many of these cartoons are over thirty years old.
