but but newton’s law says…

yeah, ok, it is a bit harder to prove that a planet must be a sphere, than to prove that its known surface has spherical curvature.

I was more wondering about the authorities who gave ruby her education, not her authority among the resistance.

well, we don’t know that yet, but I’m glad you’ve got an idea how their world works, even if the ponies haven’t yet explained it to the readers.

now I’m wondering why the leaders would teach ponies that it wasn’t a sphere, rather than just saying that most of the sphere was frozen solid.

it’s funny because aristotle figured the earth was round just by looking at the horizon, about 5 kilometers away. people could see ships go over the edge, and that the front of the ship went over first, so it was definitely descending down, but upon returning the sailors would have never encountered any edge, or plunge into any abyss. so it had to be a gradual downturn, like sailing around a ball. in 240 BC, eratosthenes, the first to measure its circumference, only had to check the angle cast by the sun at the same time in two locations about 900km apart.

so ponies can be pretty darn sure their world is flat, or is at least a chunk of a sphere. it’s certainly not clear how they would have gravity, if their world was not a sphere, but for ponies to measure whether it is flat or not, it’s probably possible to do so without even leaving equestria.

And the reason to believe there’s a huge ice wall surrounding the known earth, but beyond there’s a paradise instead of more frozen wastelands is…
Because, the way you put it, sounds more like Heaven after Death, only that we can go back, apparently.

Actually, some Flat Earthers believe that that there’s a huge ice wall in the north ala Game of Throne. Behind said ice wall are vast areas of land and more than enough food and resources for all of mankind. The evil governments of the world try to cover the truth because they use wars, resource shortages and famines as tool to control the population.

So they do care about important issues. It’s just that there solution is to reveal the “truth” which will result in everyone living happily ever after.

Hmm, I guess Gravity is just a silly theory anyway.

(I’m worried on how many people say the earth is flat and people caring about it, while we forget the real important things out there, like wars or hunger)
