It’s a kind of humor that people get sick of if they misinterpret it as shock humor, which I’m assuming is something a lot of people do when they first see it. I’d wager that for a lot of people it’s just funny the first time becuase it’s so unexpected and it seems so against the grain, because contrary to popular belief on internet forums most people aren’t cynical nihilists, then they see the same sort of humor repeated over and over by people who are actual cynical nihilists and they get bored with it and say that it’s not really that funny anymore.
 
Then we tell them “THAT’S THE JOKE” they get upset because most people just aren’t wired to /get it/.
 
That’s my hypothesis anyway.

Except that it’s part of a musical number. Musical numbers often have symbolic imagery to go along with them, or at least things that fit with what is being sung about.

Well, again, we’re completley lacking context here to be fair. Again, I personally think if nothing else it’s funny to see people get upset over what’s effectively nothing, but I suppose in that case that I have to clarify that humor is not objective.

I don’t think he’s out of sync because of this picture, it’s for a lot of other reasons, I think he just isn’t aware of how old this kind of ‘humor’ has gotten in the fandom. Or maybe he does know, and he doesn’t care. Not sure which answer I like less.

I wouldn’t say that he’s out of sync. I would assume it’s intentional on his part to show the most objectionable screenshot possible from NAS 2 and see just how riled up people would get when deprived of the proper context.

Poe’s Law in effect. The biggest part of a comedian is knowing your audience. Of course, Greg hasn’t been in sync with the fandom for years now, so no wonder his ‘joke’ isn’t going over well.

I find it funny that the guy who’s known for satire draws this and people don’t even question whether or not it’s serious before they downvote it on principal.
