the show doesn’t have blood sucking vampires, either…
for sure she can overcome her hatred, and become more like the derpy we love.
Yes, but she’s also the Derpy who used to beat Dash in flying competitions, who beat Rarity in a cart race, and who saved Twilight from being turned to stone. Derpy has some field of vision issues, but that doesn’t make her incompetent.
What she’s especially not in the show is hateful.
Wow, hold your horses. ;) I never said that this is comic has to be like FiM. Sorry if it came across that way. Neither do I have any problems with Derpy being secretly being a badass vampire hunter. Or that she has a chip on her should about vampires. All I said was that I can’t imagine this Derpy becoming the Derpy we know (from the show). Because the Derpy from the show is a klutz who probably wouldn’t stand a chance against something like a vampire.
Seeing Derpy as she is now, it takes more than development to fix. I have to assume what’s coming is a cranial injury sufficient to scramble her brain and make her forget what a bitch she is.
Or, y’know, you can just wait for the god-damn Character Development that is CLEARLY inevitable,
if this flashback even being here is anything to go by.

As much as that’s true… even in an AU, we should be careful that our characters do not sway too far from canon as to be unrecognizable. One thing that would help is if we had an aside with Derpy and Vinyl in which she revealed she had no real opinion on vampires, but paid lip service to her brother’s hatred.

Fans have been doing that “secretly a bad ass” thing since before The Last Roundup. Usually it was a secret agent but still.
I’m sorry but that’s a bit hard to believe. The problem is not that she turned from a vampire-hating mare to a caring mother. That’s character development. But Derpy from Adpating to the Night is a badass warrior who has killed several vampires. Derpy from FiM, on the other hand, is kind of a klutz who accidentally destroyed the town hall and is working as mail mare. It’s hard to believe that these are the same characters. Especially since present-time Derpy is still a badass warrior.

The point is that she is way out of character. Her brother is not canon, too, so I don’t think that’s the reason.
BUT, let’s just say that this comic is a parallel dimmension/universe. Why? Well, because in parallel dimmensions or universes, everything is the same as in other universes/dimensions, but they have some changes respect the original one. End of argue xD

Anyways, I’m surprised that they got away with telling somepony to their face that they would’ve preferred to let her die. I guess vampires don’t really have much of a lobby.
It’s not clear how old Derpy is in this anyway. Imagine her lines with a younger voice. A lot of what she is saying could be because she looks up to her older brother.
And I’m sure the will be a dramatic reason later on anyway.
I know, but, as we both suggested, everyone can do what they want. Like if now I write a fanfic where Fluttershy hates everypony and bullies everypony. That’s waay too out of character
And it seems to have created a Super Villain after all, with Sky.
Lots of “judgemental Derpy” comics going around lately.
While, of course, she can be treated as a blank page, I agree that what fan consensus exists about her most likeable traits definitely doesn’t match up with these interpretations.
Honestly, I don’t think someone would change THAT much without any reason. I’m not saying the comic is bad, just that Derpy doesn’t fit with her personaliy
