They’re supposed to be the most powerful nation in their world.
And any invading force could just waltz in, let alone into Canterlot their capital?

All-in-all, you have some good points there for what happens off-camera while we’re following the Mane Six.
And later on in the film, Tempest and Grubber prepared the Storm King’s ship while the Storm King enters the throne room offscreen and continues conquering and ruling Equestria, and even flying over Equestria in one of his ariships seeing all of Equestria being enslaved, punished, arrested, captured, siezed, and menaced by his troops while his second-in-commander/lieutenant and henchman goes south beyond either Equestria or the Badlands to hunt down Twilight by either caging her or petrifying her into a statue like the other three princesses and takes her back to the Storm King.
huh i never knew that…why iron though?
Id like to think iron, In old myths iron was a antithesis to magic. My head cannon is that while gold and gems and such common in Equestria iron is a rare element.
Without counting Twilight, the Mane6 are basically normal ponies (RD slightly less) without the elements or rainbow power.
If the enemy is something bigger than a pony, and has a way to counter Twilight’s magic, then its only natural they’d be screwed until the came up with a plan.
People just seem to enjoy thinking they’re warriors or something, even when its been shown once and again its not the case.
And its better that way because it makes things much more interesting than just making them another boring set of PPGs.

She probably has. It’s just ESRB holds her down.
so caught with your elemental pants down?
They’re pretty much above average ponies. They don’t any have special powers without the Elements.
And they were in the middle of an event with their guard down.
Those bad guys look prepared to take over a galaxy.
well know your enemy i guess lol.
No, being well prepared.
Makes sense. Tempest would have knowledge of her old homeland that could come in handy to help with the invasion.
To be fair, Tempest Shadow probably advised Storm King to issue these enchanted anti-magic shields for this invasion.
how…weirdly convenient.
Truthfully, I think Rainbow saves Twilight a split-second before the Obsidian Orb with her name on it hits her, leaving Derpy to end up taking the hit instead since she was the next creature the Orb detonated against.
Apparently, Grubber actually mistakes Derpy for Twilight (she was wearing a purple part hat and he thought it was a horn), and turned her to stone, thinking she was Twilight. That’s probably what resulted in him getting his ass fried.
That probably leads to that scene later with Tempest and Grubber when he confesses to them getting away and gets zapped for his trouble when he tries to butter Tempest up with spongecake.
Still have to show it. 8/
The problem is essentially ANY foe is dangerous to them. You don’t even need to give the villain creditability.

Same principle at least.
