I found it interesting and meaningful that they were gone for as long as Nightmare Moon (not Woona, people) was exiled. I do think there is a possible connection.

I also remember someone mentioning Luna’s moon colony but wouldn’t that really conflict with the very first episodes where it was said that Luna was banished IN the moon and not on the moon.
I think I saw Faust herself answering some question on Deviantart and explaining how Luna was in kind of a comatose state in the moon for 1000 years.
