The one from the poster looks more like an actual lion than anything. Maybe the artist just had know idea of what an actual sphinx looks like.
 
And I’ve drawn a sphinx before, but… it was absolute hell. But, its been a long time since then. Might give it another shot sometime soon with her and maybe another certain antagonist. ;)

Yeah, it’s pretty much what they did for her. Pony face and torso on a lion body with wings. I’m super happy they did her this way too. Like, this sphinx design I think is hideous D:

Like, Twilight’s a total moron, Pinkie Pie is really serious and angry, and Queen Chrysalis is every single villain and a totally chill girl:

I’m not the only one who thinks she’s part pony too, right? I know that’s not what a Sphinx is, but this Sphinx also doesn’t have a human face, so, maybe the face is the pony part.
 
yeah, I’ll go with that, that is the MLP Sphinx from now on. for me.

Badum I never wanted to draw the Sphinx until sing your recent artwork with her. Boy I got some ideas not for this gal. ;)
