That’s right. Because during production of the film, the Mane Six were originally gonna land near the Slug Troll Swamp and walk or swim to Mount Aris. Instead, the Mane Six landed near Mount Aris. Even though Mullet stated that Tempest have sank Captain Celaeno’s pirate ship near the Basalt Beach, I guess that Capper, Celaeno, and the pirates have crash-landed right between the Slug Troll Swamp and the Basalt Beach when they were stranded by a group of Slug Trolls that we don’t see in the film despite the Slug Troll Swamp being seen on the map of Equestria and Beyond.

Nope, it would’ve wasted time that was already being wasted on the bloated supporting cast they were dragging along, and seriously bloated the climax.

SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE FINAL DRAFT

This was probably fluttershy’s cut ’ Kindness’ establishing character moment scene.

On the one hand, I’m kind of bummed we didn’t see the guys in the final product. I always liked seeing new weird creatures and species added to the world of MLP.
 
On the other, the movie was kind of over-crammed with new characters and places and concepts as is. This doesn’t seem like it was planned to be much beyond a wayside stop with little impact on the main narrative, so it was probably for the best that this sequence was cut.

You do know that in all but the silliest works, big lipped alligator moments are bad, right?

But what would a movie of MLP be like without a Big Lipped Alligator Moment Song? It’s after they escape the pirates, so I assume it’s the “gather the gang back together, rally, and maybe find a next clue or powerful item” step in the story progression.  
I’m not complaining, I assume they know what they’re doing. It could be worse, at least they kept the cake drop. MLP has a long tradition of ponies in food.

It also could’ve been a distracting scene that brings the movie’s pace to a screeching halt because it has very little to do with the story. That’s why things like this get cut.

Oh rats, more interesting creatures lost to watering down the product.

That these mud trolls aren’t in the movie is a bit of a disappointment. I admit they have to focus on the real villains of the movie, but look at them. Look at the leaves on them- they’re becoming a tree, or at least a bush. What would Fluttershy think? Would Applejack try planting apple seedlings in them? And it’s a perfect opportunity for Rarity to get covered in mud in the art upgrade. And the look on Twilight just says to me “I want to take you back to my lab and turn you into spell components.”  
It’s too bad they dropped the trolls, they fit the traditional story structure. 1-Attack or attacked by the pirates. 2-Escape to somewhere, usually meeting someone new. 3-Journey back to defeat the villain. 4-Happy ending for all who are good of spirit.

Bert the cave troll is vindicated at last.
