Probably the latter. It’s not like the show hasn’t had its issues with sizing of other characters + layering. Not nearly as inconsistent as SU, but still plenty inconsistent with certain types of characters.

Heh. Seeing without his armor and crown really highlights the family resemblance between him and Ember. Same horn shape, same wing shape, similar scale colors, same spade-shaped fin at the end of their tails, same pattern of diamond-shaped scales all over their bodies…
 
It was kind of odd seeing his as so much smaller than he was in “Gauntlet”, but then again a thousand years is plenty of time to put in a few extra growth spurts. Or several.

Whenever I see him like this I just can’t help but think of the headbangers from Brütal Legend.  
He also doesn’t appear to have those chipped scales in the back of his neck yet. Interesting…
