Rainbow Dash: Oooh, yeah, you’re real scary!
Fluttershy: Yare yare daze, in the name of nature, I shall punish you!
Even though I grew up around that time of “high difficulty” in games, I prefer having a bit of relief in those tense boss fights.
It was my first Sonic game actually, back when I was really young and had a Genesis. Took me about 17 years to finally beat it (on the Genesis collection on PS3), also making it the first Sonic game I’ve beaten.
That run….is something I’ll never forget….mostly because it almost gave me a heart attack.

The 3DS Eshop version actually has an additional “ring saver” mode for newbies, that allows you to start every level with 10 rings giving n00bs a chance against the final Death Egg bosses. Admittedly, I prefer the normal mode though, as it’s a bit more rewarding to beat it the hard/normal way.
@Mr. YumYum
Yeah, hard short games can be fun, (like Contra) but of course some easier longer games like Kirby aren’t bad if made correctly. (And granted, collecting all the 100% items, and such in Kirby can be quite hard/challenging. Especially, finishing the boss rush Arena modes. So even Kirby can be brutal. Ask anyone who’s played the original unlockable “Extra” mode in the original Kirby’s Dream Land.)
@Battoushy
I miss those days of high difficulty. Made completing the game all the more sweeter. I know it was kind of a product of the time because “short games need hard difficulty for longer plays” and that it’s been said a million times before, but that’s kind of how I feel.
No hand holding in that game. You have to beat metal sonic and the death egg robot back to back. No rings. One hit and you have to start back at metal sonic.
Millennial kid : “This game is too hard, and the graphics aren’t HD, it sux!”
Me: “Oy vey…”
Ha ha Catch me if you can!
I used to be ultramegahyper-obsessed about that game when I was young
