Pinkie Pie channels the spirit of the elemental creature named Gummy using that plushie and is the only one of the main seven to use magic in the human world without some silly geode that just makes sugary things explode. Equestria’s Gummy is always submerged within the fourth dimension and can pass into the fifth in order to watch over different universes and affect them by telepathic suggestion. No one questions human Pinkie’s “pet” due the many miracles that the Gummy plushie has made over the years, and it seems that we cannot register in this world the sentience of Gummy due to him not being concerned about looking real to us.

I’m gonna go with the idea that this short actually reveals that the real Gummy is out there, lost and having some crazy adventures, while this plushie somehow replaced him (maybe Gummy himself set it up) and Pinkie has yet to notice.

Because it’s really hard to keep an alligator as pet in human world, I guess.  
Or maybe the Pie household doesn’t allow pets that breathe & poop.
 
He’s been a stuffed animal since Rainbow Rocks though.

The new shorts are so different. I enjoy them, but it’s just kinda crazy to watch when you’re used to the main studio’s style. Uncanny valley-ish, I guess.
