He did literally the same thing Twilight did in Celestial Advise.
He’s the kid and she’s the adult.
She also didn’t see the obvious in this episode and supported Spike’s paranoia.
Yet people somehow are fine with her when she’s being dense, but not when Spike does the same.
For all the crap he gets, people do seem to hold him on much higher standards than the other characters, since he’s apparently not allowed to be written as oblivious yet when the ponies fail to see the obvious, its fine..

Based solely on your critique I’ll not watch this episode. I was afraid that the writers would go back to writing him poorly. It seems that they have.
Fair enough
honestly, i tend to cut spike a mile of slack when the show has him acting naïve or stupid for the sake of driving the plot. considering he’s now a high-ranking government official and national hero of equestria, it’s super easy to forget that he’s still just a little kid, seemingly junior to even the cutie mark crusaders in terms of emotional and physical maturity. if spike was a full-grown dragon this episode would’ve been really frustrating to watch but for all spike’s been through, i can still buy him not knowing all the delicate ins and outs of friendship and stuff since he’s essentially still a toddler in dragon terms.
