I think that honestly may have been my problem as an artist all these years: I kept myself in an insular environment for so long I expected what I did was amazing and wonderful, and then when I released my art into the world at large online, I got criticism I never expected and couldn’t handle. So first I lashed out against others, and now I’m blaming myself for putting myself out there in the first place. You can never expect how people who don’t know you as a friend will react when they see objective works you produce, such as art or writing. If you aren’t prepared to accept that some will reduce your complexities to simple binary good/bad traits, then maybe you shouldn’t put yourself out there. People who don’t know you are never going to give you the benefit of the doubt. They just don’t have any evidence about you beyond that which you produce. And if you attach your works intimately to who you are as a person, you’ll have problems.

Ironically, in the episode in which she gains quite a few outside critics.

Yeah. Sometimes the hardest part is moving past blame to admitting that one fyayed up, and taking ownership of fixing the issue.

Eh yeah, it was kinda Starlight’s fault as well. But maybe there’s no point in assigning blame when it doesn’t help the situation. I’m sure the general population will calm down after a few months and stop accosting the Mane 6 everywhere they go.
