So maybe we can chalk Starlight’s moral myopia up to the stress she was indeed under when she decided to cast that spell, but it still shows that moral considerations aren’t something that quite come naturally to her, even if she made some progress in this domain.

correct me if i’m wrong, wasn’t Starlight technically aware that mind control was indeed wrong, but sort of “resorted” to it because she was under a lot of stress/anxiety?

Well, I believe it’s been discussed before that Starlight was most likely a sociopath.
 
First, the childhood trauma of losing her best friend after he got his cutie mark somehow got her sincerely convinced that removing them all was for the greater good and justified the use of coercive means to sway the reluctant ones (let alone how she missed the hypocrisy of keeping her own special talent to remove everyone else’s).  
Then she was willing to travel through time to screw up the mane 6’s friendship bonds before they were even formed, all in the name of getting back at Twilight for screwing up her egalitarian utopia, without a thought for the repercussions on the timeline as a whole.  
And even after her reformation, “Every Little Thing She Does” showed that she wasn’t averse to use mind control in the hope of going through her friendship lessons more efficiently, without realizing the sheer wrongness of this approach until Twilight told her off.
 
In conclusion, we can at the very least agree that, even with the best intentions in mind, Starlight was quite the piece of work.

Ya’ll are probably taking this way too seriously. It’s a cartoon about fictional talking horses. There’s really no need to over-analyze everything and start diagnosing them with mental disorders

Plus, Glimmer and Twilight, as well as a majority of bronies in real life, have social and mental disorders, like autism, Aspergers, OCD, etc.

I personally have two problems with this, tho. First of, some of the way that Glimmer was presented made her seem “evil” in a similar way as Trixie but she didn’t really do it out of revenge or spite but for a sympathetic reason like some of the mane six when they did bad stuff but they never seemed outright bad more like dumb. So her backstory isn’t really a sufficient reason as to why she is acting the way she does especially because that scenario probably happened to a thousand other fillies and they didn’t react like this. Second of, she doesn’t believe in her own ideology. Glimmer seems so much more aware of everything than any other character. So while Sunset or Trixie have these incredibly stupid plans and delusions that make no sense like take over the world with an army of teenagers Glimmer actually made an ideology to take control of ponies while pretending to follow it herself and has plans that could actually work out. Villians like Tirek or Chrysalis and to some extend Sunset and Trixie seem to be evil because that’s just who they are(demon, chaotic spirit or born evil). They don’t know any better. Some others that show bad behaviour have backstories or implications as to why they are bad that serve as a clear and only cause. But Glimmer is neither. It looks like Glimmer is just bad because that’s who she is but at the same time she has a backstory that is supposed to fully explain her behaviour but really it looks like she just decided to be bad. That makes her more like a bad person in the real world like a murder or rapist that we would want to see get punished because they deserve it. In addition to that, Sombra and Tirek were actually punished quite harshly. Trixie was corrupted by the amulet so you can’t be too harsh on her.

Not sure if you’re a native English speaker, but “genocide” means “the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.” I don’t recall Trixie killing anyone.

in fact Twilight did something that starlight did but on a much bigger scale when Starlight did it it was only 5 when Twilight did it it was a lot more and not only did she not get punished she was no longer giving a deadline for her homework.  
I’m not staying fans shouldn’t complain about starlight getting off scot-free for doing bad things but It Feels Like to be way more harsher on starlight

What’s also ironically hypocritical is that fans get after Starlight for getting off scot-free for nearly destroying the timeline just because her friend left her, while also completely forgetting that another unicorn got off scot-free without consequence TWICE for performing mass genocide on an entire town because of a petty reason to get back on an upcoming princess.

I think that pretty much already happened since the Cutie Map picked her to go on a friendship mission in “A Royal Problem” (granted, it was also the first solo mission assigned by the map, but still…)
