Late I know, but Preston’s notoriety aside, (and I understand he’s …a unique individual) I don’t think he was saying “mature” stuff is bad, or FiM is superior to those. (He didn’t even mention Mark Twain, and such.) I think his point was a story doesn’t have to have alot of cussing, poopy-humor, sex, and such to be “mature.”  
I actually kinda agree, kid-friendly stuff can be pretty deep too. Alot of older mature movies would be considered “G-rated” or “PG” nowadays. That doesn’t mean Rated-R movies are bad either though, as some can be just as deep, or dramatic.
 
The rated-R “Deadpool” movie had just as many funny SFW jokes as it did R-rated ones. So humor can go both ways too.

Serious talk? This is Andrew “I have shit taste in comics” Dobson. The guy who wanted to send all of Japan to a reeducation camp to be “less sexist” because he did not approve of Quiets design in MGS5.  
Dobson is one of the most biased manchildren out there and this comic is just him trying to argue (and failing) why kids shows are all “more mature” than any form of genuine mature story out there.
 
I like MLP, but this is a guy who genuinely believes that FiM is in every way superior to anything writen by the likes of Mark Twain, Hemmingway or Tolstoy, just because he can’t deal with actual mature themes.
