I couldn’t stop thinking of how much this started reminding of Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy.

It is. It’s from the second episode of Season 2 of the radio show.
Lol, nice.
The issue is when you shorten something, you, by necessity, simplify it and lose information.
For example “Brevity is the soul of wit” importantly mentions that is the soul of - there’s more to wit than just brevity.
But “Brevity is wit” says that the shorter something is, the more witty it is.
So apparently if you just reply to everything with “k”, then you’re the most witty person possible :P
When I’m going physics mode and explaining things, this is my life, lol. Try taking something you’ve studied for years to understand, and explaining it in just a few sentences.
You’re not being witty. You’re just cutting out a lot of information for the sake of brevity, not wit.
@Background Pony Number 17
It was a Simpsons reference.
And yes, I knew it was parody of Shakespeare. The joke is that the line is improved by shortening it.
So yeah, Simpsons > Shakespeare.

that’s just what the penguins want you to believe…
Well, he may not have been brief in dialogue, but his life sure was. Naturally, as a Hamlet character :p
I tend to write a lot - long messages - and I’ve had that come as a reply as a quip as a sort of backhanded “TL;DR”.
Spend years and years studying technical subjects and you’ll understand why that saying is so annoying, even with personal experience aside.
You can argue that wit isn’t intelligence, which is kinda true, but you’re really barking up the wrong tree if you’re saying Douglas Adams wasn’t witty. If someone is saying those lines weren’t witty, I can only think they didn’t actually read the image and just downvoted it because they don’t like how much text is on the picture.
Which is very upsetting. This deserves at least a positive score.
Either that, or some people just don’t appreciate good wit :p
@Cirrus Light
“Brevity is the soul of wit” is the actual line from Shakespeare. It was spoken by Polonius in Hamlet. Polonius was neither brief nor witty, and ended up being killed accidentally by Hamlet. So there’s that.
Said people with brevity, not wit.
Just because penguins are black and white doesn’t mean all things black and white are penguins.
I think it’s a Hitchhiker’s Guide quote. I wouldn’t try to argue that Douglas Adams wasn’t witty…
