Well, why exactly would removing the downvote button be such a bad thing? Even without it, some images will still have a higher or lower score than other images. One might even say that downvotes are kinda redundant.

Still disagree, especially since most people just downvote for little things (like it being a ship they don’t like or a character isn’t white), and most people who downvote doesn’t give feedback on the art other than it’s being bad. It isn’t encouraging when you’re downvoted galore without any feedback on what’s wrong or how to improve.

One day, the site switched from downvotes to hiding images. It didn’t go well, even though most of us seemed to like it or at least was cool with it.

What is happening actually? I don’t know about any of this!

I still liked the idea of the “Hide” button, why can’t we have both instead?

I think a lot of people liked the hide button, but the ones who enjoyed misusing the downvote button just screamed the loudest. And I say misusing, because they literally say they want it because they just want to express their dislike without having to explain it, filtering by quality be damned.
 
I actually like good critique, but a downvote doesn’t say anything. I’m not going to fix whatever peeved the voters, because I have no idea what it is and it’s more likely that they just didn’t like the topic and shouldn’t have been viewing the picture in the first place.

Lack of downvotes/dislikes/whatever is the reason why Squidward haven’t moved on past making self-portraits. Except here, we still have comments, but we also have mods, so there’s that… Also, the downvotes have been restored, _yay
 
Tumblr doesn’t even have comments, unless it’s an ask blog, and even then, only approved/answered ones are published. And no fingers need to be pointed at Derpi or Tumblr to determine which one of them is closer to being the “Squidward factory”.
