I don’t think I saw that performance of it(I might be wrong, it could have been. But the time I listened to Muskrat Love was after watching this anthology. It’s been a while).

Doesn’t bother me, either. It’s a humorous, harmless half-novelty song. If you see C&T performing it on YT, there are two guys dressed as muskrats fooling around. And then there’s the inner groove joke in the original single pressing with its playful, farcical sexual overtones.
 
I think it’s bad on purpose, contrary to rubbish like Bobby Goldsboro’s “Honey” (keeping in mind that I don’t like overdone country ballads - I mean, John Denver was GLORIOUS -, I actually like Goldsboro, but this time he went too far with the tearjerker. So did my very admired Gilbert O’Sullivan with “Alone Again (Naturally)”: there are many nice songs in his catalog and they always pick this early stinker. And now I’ll stop because I’m going on a tangent).

It didn’t bother me listening to Muskrat Love, I feel more or less neutral to it.
