Depends entirely on the size, I think, since that will determine the cross sectional density of the line coming down through the atmosphere.
Actually the fall of space elevator wouldn’t be so apocalyptic. The line isn’t very dense and air resistance would do its job.

At least she’s a cut above not finding them even if she’s a little spaced out.
With those scissors and that face, I think she’s trying to cut an orbital elevator.
Her lack of physics knowledge means she has no idea how much that will destroy and harm so many people.
But fortunately her lack of knowledge that would keep her from doing it if she knew the harm it would cause also keeps her from doing it because I’m pretty sure those scissors against carbon nanotubes… won’t cut it.
