Yeah. Content-wise it wasn’t much different (if not less disturbing) from a police procedural on broadcast TV (the average NYPD Blue episode has around twice the profanity and violence an episode of Gundam Wing has; granted that show was and hour long instead of thirty minutes, but still…).
Sapphire Star
Lunar Supporter - Helped forge New Lunar Republic's freedom in the face of the Solar Empire's oppressive tyrannical regime (April Fools 2023).

Jell-o?

I remember seeing the unedited version later on, and wondering why they bothered editing it in the first place. GW was super fun and somewhat cheesy, not an edit-worthy gore-fest. I dunno…

Heh, I still remember watching GW on Toonami when I was 5-6 (obviously not the preferred demo for that show, but then again I was watching trash like Jerry Springer at age 3, when the show was huge, so I didn’t have a lot of standards or intelligence back then; I just watched whatever was on). I found it more entertaining and exciting than Transformers, if only because it wasn’t as illogical or cheesy as that franchise was/is.
I would’ve enjoyed it more…if I wasn’t watching the daytime version, which Cartoon Network censored to hell to make it more ad-friendly (editing the blood/gore and profanity, the latter of which wasn’t even that strong, was understandable, but getting rid of every reference to death? They really must think kids are brainless). I did catch some of the uncensored midnight showings, mostly during the summer, but I didn’t stay awake long enough to get through the more…interesting parts.
(I’ve actually started re-watching the show on Hulu, first time in over 20 years. Thankfully the dub on there uses the uncensored midnight versions.)
